In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, an institution revered, each game celebrated more lavishly than Christmas, each playoff distinguished more grandly than any national holiday. And with such recognition, comes powerful emotions. In 1971 high school football was everything to the people of Alexandria. But when the local school board was forced to integrate an all black school with an all white school, the very foundation of football's great tradition was put to the test.

As part of the Day of Peace Celebration, following the movie, Rockdale Earth Day invites members of the community to participate in a moderated time of discussion about lessons learned and challenges & opportunities which lie ahead to build a better community, and thus a better world.

> Saturday, September 19 from 10am-2pm: Sidewalk Chalk Art event with the theme of peace. Art Students, businesses, churches, citizens and organizations are invited to create a sidewalk mural in downtown Rockdale. Local businesses and the Rockdale Community Market look forward to welcoming all participants. Chalk will be supplied by Rockdale Earth Day from generous contributions to our organization.

> Sunday, September 20 at 7pm: Special Night of Peace Service at the Kay Theater featuring a wonderful evening of music, peace prayers and readings, with this year’s peace homily being delivered by local minister, Pastor Herbert Jones.
